There was no tell, no warning at all for the defender. Solomon simply stopped, his massive legs absorbing all the energy from his earlier sprint. He fed that energy back into his legs and hopped backward. It wasn’t flashy and it certainly wasn’t highlight real leaping either, but the effect was dramatic in itself.
The linebacker was committed to a diving hit meant to push Solomon across the out of bounds line. The linebacker hit nothing but air. The big man sailed by with a look of utter confusion on his face. Not even a heartbeat later, Solomon bolted again.
The announcer was screaming into his microphone. “How does he do that? How does he do that?”

Now comes the chapter where my added character not in the screenplay becomes a linchpin to the future of the other two brothers. The challenge here is to pull this scene off without making it seem cheap, or otherwise fake. I’m really going to have to dig into my major support character “Dad” to sell this as good as I want it. The follow up scene after is pivotal to the main character’s future, so the first scene needs to be nearly perfect to make the second one gold. Wish me luck.
Well, another in the bag. I will have to come back to it later and flesh it out a bit more, but the gist is there. The conversation between characters is strong and believable, so the added fleshing shouldn’t detract from it at all.
